Technology Geek 101 – How to Update QuickBooks in a Flash
Are you stuck with an obsolete version of QuickBooks? Are you tired of using the same old application again & again & again….? Is your service provider putting up astronomical figures in front of you as a charge for updating your friendly-neighborhood tax preparation software? If the answer to any of those questions is yes, then you’re in for one hell of a ride as all such worries can now be buried in the past.
On the face of it, updating QuickBooks seems like a cumbersome task, which is just a camouflage as, in truth, it can be achieved by even a tech-novice with seamless ease.
Getting down to business, updates are the cornerstone of every application. No matter how prudent or flamboyant an application/software is, newer versions are all but surely released in the near future as progressive improvement is inevitable with the massive influx of cutting-edge technologies and business-driven strategies these days.
With every new version, we see that the previously-encountered bugs are resolved, errors are mitigated, new services are readily given, interface is made handy & more environment friendly, and much more. Consistent up gradation is the key to any application’s success as one can’t procure perfection in one go unless one’s Picasso.
So, now that we know how critically significant this process is, let us shed some light as to what actually happens when you decide to take the plunge.
Your service provider might not have the latest QB version with him or his personnel can’t support the version you want or he gives you off-the-charts pricing quotes or you might be too lazy to upgrade in the first place. All such road-blocks are encountered more often than not.
Know that if you’re willing enough, you can update your QuickBooks on the server in accordance with your server admin or service provider. To accomplish that, kindly follow the underlying steps for these might just be the self-sufficiency tonic that you needed.
Step 1: Open the QuickBooks Application which needs to be updated.
Step 2: Go to the “Help” Menu. Click on “Update QuickBooks” from the options which are laid out in front of you.
- This window is named as the “Update Window” of QuickBooks.
- P.S. – Don’t forget to remember that you need to set “Automatic Updates” as “OFF”.
Step 3: Select all the update options that are enlisted on the screen. After selection, “Save” & click on the “Update Now” tab and voila! All your updates will be instantaneously downloaded.
- But, the process has still not reached its culmination. So, keep your bearings intact.
Step 4: When all the updates are downloaded, close the QuickBooks application.
- Note – If by any chance you need to update more than one application, kindly use the older version as your priority first.
Step 5: Open the QB application again which you just updated. Upon opening, a pop-up window will appear prompting you to “Install Updates”. Click on “OK” and move ahead.
Step 6: While updates installation, QB asks for updating the “qbw.ini” file. Since, that file is by default labeled as a “read only” file, it won’t update the QB app.
