The Annoying Side of Cloud and How to Get Rid of It

Cloud computing, a technology that delivers various computing operations over the Internet, is considered among the most potential technologies for a better future. For the kind of advantages that it offers, such as limited hardware needs, cross-device operations, multi-user collaboration, etc., cloud computing has easily earned a huge popularity among individual users as well as businesses.

The Annoying Side of Cloud and How to Get Rid of It

Undoubtedly, the cloud is loaded with a number of pleasantries. But there are some drawbacks with it as well. This article does not intend to downsize the abilities of the cloud but aims to aware the readers of some negatives of cloud computing and how they can overcome them.

1. Security Suffocations

Basically, adopting cloud computing means one has to store data on a network (such as the Internet) and that enables a number of nodes from the user-end to the storage end. The more is the number of nodes the higher will be chances of network breaching. Hence, the security of the data stored on the cloud is doubtful if the data remains legible at these nodes.

Solution: Most important aspect of security on the cloud is data encryption.  Use a cloud service that practices data encryption. On your end, keep the passwords protected and read the user agreement carefully.

2. Lack of Control

As discussed above, the cloud service provider hosts your data. From the security to the user-interface, most of the characteristics of cloud services are controlled by the service providers and hence, the user does not have much of control. In case of shared cloud, users may face issues, such as slower response time, lesser security control, etc. because of this lack of control.

Solution: Users can switch to the private cloud to experience individualistic services. On a private cloud, testing and running your application is easier. One can even galvanize the personalized security techniques.

3. Comfort Crisis

Most of the users have adapted to the traditional computing methods and are comfortable working with them. Switching to the cloud computing will mean getting out of comfort zone for many and some business operations may even require special training for the employees, which adds an additional burden. Also, using the different cloud services may make this issue even more complex.

Solution: Your technical adaptability is the best rescue to this issue. One can also opt for the cloud version of the software that they have already used. For example, accountants can easily move their QuickBooks desktop on the cloud. So that cloud does not turn into an out of the blue situation.

4. Attack Vulnerability

Because cloud works on a network, all the attack possibilities associated with the network comes inherent to it. From malware attacks to foreign party intrusion, a weak network is susceptible to all. The ability of the cloud to work on mobile devices turns into its weakness if it is connected on a network with poor security. So, this adds a responsibility on the user to find the safer networks.

Solution: Usual network security practices, such as installing a firewall, etc., are effective ways to protecting network attacks. Cloud users should avoid connecting their devices to untrusted networks to keep their devices safe and protected.

Wrapping Up

Cloud computing is certainly one of the most useful technologies in many ways. Highly cost-effective and immensely equipped with features, this technology is able to serve almost every level of computing needs. With so much of gladness available for the takers, there are some annoyances as well, but the good thing is that users can overcome those annoyances pretty easily.

While the lack of control shared cloud provides is a serious issue it is down shadowed by the cheap availability of a ton of shared resources. Private cloud is good for business houses but an individual can benefit more from a shared cloud.

Nice post Kartik. While there are a few demerits of cloud overall it’s a highly beneficial technology that allows for better collaboration and easy accessibility of resources.

Putting all your data on the cloud is a high risk action. A single hacker can take away all your stuff in an instant. So be wary when putting up your data on the cloud.
